8 OSCARS to SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

"It takes decade to achieve an overnight success."

And this success of Slumdog by winning 8 out of 10 nomination and beaten by itself in one out of two remaining (2 songs "Jai ho" and "O saya" are nominated for best song) is just an achievement of decades of toil and brilliant work which each individual has shown in there respective field and ultimately rewarded tonight.

Slumdog wins 8 academy awards:

  • Achievement in Cinematography - Anthony Did Mantle
  • Achievement in Directing - Danny Boyle
  • Achievement in Film Editing - Chris Dickens
  • Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) - A.R. Rahman
  • Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) - Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by Gulzar
  • Best Motion Picture of the Year - Christian Colson
  •
  • Achievement in Sound Mixing - Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty
  • Adapted Screenplay - Screenplay by Simon Beaufoy

  • The rest two in which it was nominated are:

Let us understand what actually Oscars are.
The Oscars reward the previous year’s greatest cinema achievements as determined by some of the world’s most accomplished motion picture artists and professionals. The Academy’s roughly 6,000 members vote for the Oscars using secret ballots, which are tabulated by the international auditing firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The auditors maintain absolute secrecy until the moment the show’s presenters open the envelopes and reveal the winners on live television.

Awards are presented for outstanding individual or collective efforts in up to 25 categories. Members select winners from as many as five nominees in each category, which are determined by members of the relevant Academy branch. (For instance, only film editors may nominate for the Achievement in Film Editing award.) The only exceptions are the Best Picture category, for which nominees are selected by the entire membership, and the Best Foreign Language films, which are nominated by a committee of members drawn from all branches.

In addition to the regular annual awards conferred by the membership, the Board of Governors is empowered to bestow Scientific and Technical Awards, Honorary Awards, Special Achievement Awards and other honors.

Broadcast rights to the annual Oscar telecast provide the majority of the revenue for the organization’s rich and varied year-round activities.

Thus all in all Oscars for past several decades rules the world for its prestige and honour.

This year by winning 8 Oscars Slumdog opens a new window which clearly shows a face very old but having a freshness of sprouted leave:  "India" which is in business of making film for decades but slowly recognized by the world.

Clearly this time the two great personalities behind are A R Rahman and Danny Boyle who showed the color of India to the world.

    Darwin

    Survival of the fittest.

well if we go by Darwin we must ask the question whether his theory would survive the times when every one is after one single question :
    What was the start??????????????????????????????????????

Yes no one has the answer and still the search is on. Darwin has gone to an extent but in true sense it look likes it is beyond our power given by nature to know the answer and it is destiny to live in jeopardy.

Darwin is definitely given a great theory but not the ultimate one which is still waiting to be executed.

So ultimately the answer is one but questions are two:

    Who is God?????????
    What was the START??????????????

    Slumdog Controversy

There are two controversies attached to Slumdog Millionaire:
    • Director Danny Boyle exploited child artists of slums.
    • Amitabh Bachchan comments on description of third world as dirty in film.
Nothing new every big project is associated with controversies and with success they get more publicity and more clicks.

But what we must look upon is the art of describing and showing the reality. I don't know about the book but one could not deny the masterpiece created by Danny Boyle and the magic of A R Rahman.

    • Is it really possible to picturize the scenes taking all well trained child actors. Very difficult, as it requires real life hero's like Azharuddin(child Jamal) and Rubina(child Latika).
    • Whether its unfair to show a particular class of society and there lifestyle to world when it is world largest slum.
Well I don't think so and believe that these are just the side affects of success.

    A R Rahman - A Brand

If brand is personification then what do we call a person who itself is a brand- PERSONIFIED BRAND.

With a golden globe award and 3 Oscar nominations A R Rahman has proved that he has been going places and established itself as a strong brand among the various celebs.

Let us examine it in 3 steps:

    • Category identification: He entered the industry as musician and automatically conveys that I am going to make tunes and you can expect the obvious outcomes.

    • POD(point of deference)Then he creates music like no other has done before whether its in Roza or Bombay.

    • POP(point of parity)He creates ripples by not only giving music like every one but a music for causes from time to time like Vande matram and recent Jiya se jiya.                                He creates music not only for dance and fun in movies but also a music that becomes the sole of the  movie.

Well he has gone international with Bombay dreams and now at Slumdog Millionaire where at last he wins accolades at international arena.

Thus Rahman poses an ideal example of a personified brand and shows how a person by constant good work and simple rules of marketing can achieve success

    Obama's inaugural address

Top ten points to be noted in Obama speech:
    1. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans. That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood.
    2. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age
    3. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
    4. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.
    5. we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned.
    6.  We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth
    7. crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous.
    8. all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers.
    9. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan.
    10.  we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet.

    Obama - Presidential Inauguration 2009 part 3

Wherever this path will take to world but this Presidential inaguration will make history in terms of marketing.

The last space in the bottom right is going to be filled by this 20th Jan and a festival in washington begins with a joyride.

Well lets have few facts to understand the grandueur of this finale of a marketing campaign:

    • Cost will be around $150mn
    • 2mn people are expected
    • 10,000 charter buses
    • 1mn metro riders

when the event is of such grand scale one would expect how big the campaing is and how various facets are to be maintained well I just quote here 1 thing thats speech which is one of the great importance.

    1. Speeches

    • Thomas Jefferson-"We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists"

    • Abraham Lincoln-"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away."

    • Franklin D Roosevelt-"I am certain that my fellow Americans expect that on my induction into the Presidency I will address them with a candour and a decision which the present situation of our nation impels"

    • John F Kennedy-"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger"

What are other marketing factors in this Presidential Inauguration 2009 ?

    Obama - Presidential Inauguration 2009 part 2

Marketing is going to make history with Obama becoming 44th prez on 20th jan 2009.

When Obama takes oath and makes inaugural address nearly 2 million people are expected to see the splendid moment.

Is it really worth to celebrate the new government at such a grand scale??

Ya but at what cost we are celebrating and what for.

Whole world is in trouble and who knows better than America. It’s time to show results rather than to celebrate for the change in government not the situation.

Let’s look from the eyes “who look life differently

    • Let’s suppose your company is in trouble and in financial crisis would you celebrate the newly appointed CEO????
    • Your project is in trouble and you are in dire need of funds and you got a new leader would you celebrate???
    • You are planning to have a new venture and suddenly you bleed dry would you celebrate?????
    • Lakhs lost their jobs and you still celebrate.
    • There is a terror attack and you celebrate.

All these things happen all the time but right now I just don’t understand the reason to celebrate without delivering the result.

Celebration is there but for what, for a change (in govt.) or we must celebrate CHANGE(scenario’s).
